The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, located at  315 East Warren Ave. in Detroit, is hosting the following events the week of Dec. 13-19:




30 Days To Lose It! workout (recurring weekly - $)
Tuesday 12/14 @ 7:30 pm in the Multi Purpose Room
Featuring a walking workout by FitnessWorks which will culminate in a 5k walk on December 28. Also, a special weekly massage therapy will be provided by Carrie L. Hendricks of "Just Like Grandma's Hands" for an additional fee. Free for members, $5 for non-members. The Calling (film screening & panel discussion)
Wednesday 12/15 @ 6:30 pm in the Contemporary Artist Gallery
A behind-the-scenes look at young Americans - Christian, Jewish, Catholic and Muslim – preparing to become America's next generation of religious leaders, "The Calling," follows their transformation from idealistic students into ordained religious professionals. Will be followed by an interfaith panel discussion with Rabbi Daniel A. Schwartz of Temple Shir Shalom, Rev. Daniel Trapp of Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Rev. Dr. Charles Mabee of the Ecumenical Theological Seminary, and Imam Mitchell Shamsud-Din of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan. A presentation of the Community Cinema 2010/2011 film series. This event is FREE and open to the public.


Opening Reception for Framed Stories: The Art of Carmen Cartiness Johnson and Jerome Wright
Thursday 12/16 @ 6 pm in the Contemporary Artist Gallery
Join us for the opening reception of our latest Contemporary Artist Gallery exhibit featuring artists Carmen Cartiness Johnson and Jerome Wright, whose work will be displayed through April 10, 2011. Light refreshments will be served. This event is FREE and open to the public.


Apollo Theater Music Revue (concert - $)
Thursday 12/16 @ 7 pm in the GM Theater
Hear top Detroit musicians hosted by former Temptations Musical Director Al McKenzie, including a special guest appearance by Kansas City's Lisa Henry. Tickets are $10 and include admission to the Apollo Theater exhibition, which will be on display before the event and during intermission. Sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Art of the Masters Workshop
Saturday 12/18 @ 2 pm in the Latimer Cafe
Experience the exhibit, Art of the Masters: A Survey of African American Images, 1980 - 2000, with teaching artist Ziwadi Majiisa. This workshop will focus on Kwanzaa gifts with cards, wrapping paper, book marks, dolls, mixed media & assemblage. Free with museum admission.
