GRAMPing lets grandparents camp in comfort
More and more grandparents vacation with their families, as multigenerational travel is on the rise. According to Grandparents.com, 66% of grandparents travel with their grandkids and a whopping 81% have their grandkids for part or all of their summer vacation. While many families who visit Ohio's Hocking Hills on vacation enjoy camping out, grandparents typically are not as fond of sleeping in tents or in the more rustic accommodations usually found at campsites. The Inn & Spa at Cedar falls has a solution that meets the entire family's needs, while enabling them to vacation and enjoy a camping lifestyle together.
Renowned for incredibly comfortable bedding and delectable breakfasts, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls' proximity to Old Man’s Cave Campground and other area camping options make it the ideal resting place for grandparents. After a day of hiking the region's lush forests, and experiencing its picturesque rock formations, waterfalls and caves, kids, parents and grandparents can make their way to the Inn for a memorable dinner. Afterward, the Inn will treat the group to S’mores around the campfire. The Inn chef will also create a picnic for families to enjoy on the trail or serve lunch in its Kindred Spirits Dining Room, or al fresco on the patio. The Inn's GRAMPing offerings allow generations of families to experience the area together during the day. But as the night draws to an end, grandparents can return to the Inn for a comfy night’s sleep, while younger generations head to the campsite. Bob and Eileen Anchors of Zelienople, PA, just outside Pittsburgh, were among the first GRAMPers to visit the Inn this season.
"It was wonderful," raved Inn guest Eileen Anchors. "Our kids and grandkids stayed at a campground right down the road. We enjoyed beautiful hikes with them to Old Man's Cave and Cedar Falls. But then they went ziplining with grandpa, while I went shopping, made candles and even took a ride into town to see the Washboard Festival." Anchors added that she and husband Bob enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Inn before heading to the campground to share s'mores around the campfire with two younger generations. "It was the best of everything for everyone; it was great for us and great for them," Anchors said.
In addition to light-to-moderate hiking, a zipline canopy tour, kayaking and other outdoor adventures, the Inn can connect families with gifted local photographer, Erik Hoffman, who is skilled at capturing the essence and beauty of the Hocking Hills. Hoffman helps families preserve special travel memories with a Personal Photographer session, resulting in spectacular family portraits set against the stunning backdrop of the Hocking Hills.
