Burr Oak State Park Lodge (Ohio) hosts Appalachian Weekend Jan. 14-16


GLOUSTER, OH- Burr Oak State Park Lodge is hosting a celebration of Appalachian culture during the annual Appalachian Weekend, January 14-16. Special attractions and live entertainment scheduled throughout the weekend are free of charge and open to the public, as well as lodge guests.

Old time music will be a highlight of the weekend. An open stage will be held on Friday evening at 8 p.m. A concert on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. will feature two Ohio bands, the Second Wind Bluegrass Duet and the Back Porch Swing Band. A Sunday afternoon concert at 3 p.m. will feature Newark musicians Stan and Flo Hortz playing traditional tunes on hammered dulcimer and guitar. Local musicians are encouraged to bring instruments and join the jam sessions throughout the weekend.

An Appalachian Toys workshop will be offered for children at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Civil War storytelling and demonstrations by costumed re-enactors, hunting and fishing demonstrations, and quilting displays and demonstrations will be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Local arts and crafts will be displayed in the lodge lobby on Saturday and Sunday.

The lodge’s Cardinal Dining Room will be open throughout the weekend and will offer authentic Appalachian menu items for a special rate, in addition to the regular menu.
