Perfect for the RVer on your gift-giving list, the “Living the RV Life: Your Ultimate Guide to Life on the Road” is a 256-page book jam-packed with full-color photos and practical information to help anyone hit the road and enjoy the RV lifestyle.
Published by Adams Media, a division of Simon & Schuster, “Living the RV Life” was written by Marc and Julie Bennett, full-time RVers who operate a popular website, YouTube channel and social media accounts under the “RVLove” moniker.
With a list price of $22.99, “Living the RV Life” is available in paperback and digital (eBook/Kindle) versions from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, Costco, Indie-Go-Go, and other independent bookstores and online retailers as well as RVLove.com
I recently spoke with Julie — I provided a testimonial in the foreword —who told me that the best part about writing the book was “working together as a team to create a clear and concise yet extremely comprehensive road map to the RV life that is rich in content, visually beautiful and easy to read.” It needed to be relevant and relatable to everyone from Millennials to Baby Boomers, she added, acknowledging that in itself was a tall order, but one they managed to pull off.
“In writing this book, we drew on our own experience and knowledge from our years of RVing, and that of others, with a wide range of RVer stories, recommended resources, and color photographs to paint a complete and honest picture of what to expect in RV life,” she said. “The goal was to not only educate others and help them understand it, but to inspire and empower them with the confidence, knowledge and tools to get out there, hit the road and love it. We're very happy with the early reviews coming in saying ‘we nailed it.’”
The book features not only practical advice on such topics as finding the right RV, emotional connections, expenses, and earning an income while on the road, but also interviews with other full-time RVers, many of whom also operate popular YouTube channels.
“The book is a blend of the aspirational elements of the RV lifestyle and also the practical elements of how you make it possible,” Marc explained. “It’s the book that we wish had existed when we hit the road back in 2014. We know it’s going to help so many people.”
The project began back in January when the Bennetts were boondocking in Quartzsite, Ariz., when Adams Media contacted them to gauge their interest in writing a book about the RV lifestyle. Wanting to capitalize on RVing’s popularity, Adams Media identified the Bennetts as people who could write a book about the subject. A few conversations later, the couple was on their way to becoming authors.
Julie and Marc Bennett
“They weren’t any books from any major publishing houses that would help people learn what is the RV lifestyle all about, who’s doing it and why, and if somebody is interested how they would go about it. How do they get started? What do they need to do to hit the road successfully? They were looking for someone to write a guide to take them through that process,” Julie said.
“It was a lot of work We’re not going to kid anybody on that,” Marc said, mentioning the deadline for their initial manuscript was the end of March – about a month after they signed the book deal back in mid-February. “It was a very, very busy time.”
The ensuing months included the Bennetts submitting photos and several rounds of editing. At the same time, the couple was selling their 2012 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 35QBA and purchasing a 1999 Country Coach Intrigue as well as involved with the filming of the “RV Nomads” movie and helping to launch the Epic Nomads social media network and platform.
“It’s amazing we’re still standing,” Julie said.
“It’s been an intense, insane but exciting year for us,” Marc interjected.
Julie said they are “delighted” with the finished book, saying “everyone is going to love it – at least we hope everyone is going to love it!”
