Greenbo Lake State Resort Park with 21 new improved camping sites is ready to open March 15 – along with other Kentucky State Park campgrounds.
“Camping is one of the most popular recreational activities at Kentucky State Parks,” Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland said. “The new sites at Greenbo Lake include electric, water and sewer and we expect them to be very popular with campers.”
The new sites also have 50 amp electric service. Greenbo now offers 79 improved campsites that include 45 sites with 50-amp service. There are another 24 sites for primitive camping.
Greenbo Lake, located in northeastern Kentucky, also plans to offer winter season camping because frost-free hydrants were added during the campground renovation during the last few months.
Kentucky State Parks have 30 campgrounds across the state. To help kickoff the camping season, the state parks will hold its annual “Camper Appreciation Weekend” on April 27-29, when campers can get two nights for the price of one.
State park campgrounds are offering a variety of activities during Camper Appreciation Weekend. These include entertainment, arts and crafts, putt-putt golf, bonfires, movies, cookouts and nature programs.
Another camping discount offered during April is a two nights for the price of one Sunday through Thursday nights. Guests should use the discount code “Spring2018” when making online reservations to get the discount.
All state park campgrounds have water and electric services with dump stations or sewer hookups, along with picnic tables and fire rings at each improved site, and bathhouses. Primitive sites are also available.
The campground at John James Audubon State Park in Henderson is closed due to construction work this season. A nearby dam is being reinforced in a $2 million project being overseen by the state Division of Water.
Check the Department of Parks web site at www.parks.ky.gov for more information on camping and to make online reservations. (For the Camper Appreciation Weekend, campers will be charged half price for the nights of April 27-28.)
