Cheboygan State Park to offer lantern-lit cross-country skiing and hiking on Jan. 26

Cheboygan State Park will offer an evening of lantern-lit cross country-skiing and hiking from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. The event will begin at the park trailhead located off Seffern Road, where skiers will find approximately 1.8 miles of groomed and track-set trails lit by lanterns spaced 50 feet apart. Snowshoers and hikers also are welcome to participate, but are asked to keep to one side of the groomed ski tracks.

The event is being hosted by the Cheboygan Yacht Club. Visitors can enjoy a bonfire at the trailhead before starting out. A second bonfire with snacks and hot chocolate will be awaiting participants at the Fourteen Foot Shoals cabin located at the halfway point on the trail.

The event will be held, weather permitting. Those interested in participating should call the park at 231-627-2811 to confirm there is adequate snowfall for skiing and hiking. Cheboygan State Park is located at 4490 Beach Road, two miles southeast of Cheboygan on US-23.

Cheboygan State Park is open throughout the winter for cabin rentals and cross-country skiing. Reservations can be made by calling 800-447-2757 or online at www.midnrreservations.
